Sugar Loaf (Pão
de Açúcar) is arguably the most famous landmark in Rio and all
of Brazil. This huge slab of granite rock rises 396 metres above the
Guanabara Bay and provides excellent views of Rio and the surrounding
areas.
Instead of riding the cable car with the other tourists, here is your
chance to hike and rock climb to the top. The trek starts off with an
easy 30 minute walk along a pedestrian pathway with great views
overlooking praia vermelha. We then hike and scramble up
the side of the mountain enjoying great views of the bay. Before
reaching the top we will rock climb a 25-30 metre section, which is
then followed by more hiking.
Finally at the top, all the hard work is forgotten as you enjoy the
breathtaking views of Rio de Janeiro, Guanabara Bay, surrounding
beaches, and the city of Niteroi.
On the way down, we will ride one section of the cable car and then
hike a forested area down the side of Urca Mountain. |
