Caipirinha
is arguably the national drink of Brazil. It is made with
cachaça, crushed ice, limes, and
sugar. Cachaça is a high
proof sugar cane alcohol that will be felt the next day if one
overindulges.
Caipiroska or Caipivodka is the same as a
Caipirinha except vodka is used instead of cachaca.
Batidas are made with various fruits that are blended with
cachaça and ice. Batida de
Maracujá, Batida de Morango, and Batida de Pêssego are very
good, and yes, you are supposed to eat the seeds of the passion fruit.
Beer (cerveja) is everywhere and drunk ice cold (bem
gelada). Brahma and Bohemia are the best, but the local favourite
is still Skol. Other brands include Antarctica, Bavaria and
Nova Schinn. Draft beer (chopp) is widely popular and
served in most restaurants and patios. |
