Electricity
In Brazil the electrical current will vary from 110V to 220V, so it is
recommended to take a converter with you. Most outlets in Rio de
Janeiro will be 110V and have 2 sockets that will take both round and
flat prongs. If in doubt, check before you plug in. |

ATM's / Bank Machines
It is very easy
to use bank cards to withdraw money provided they are linked to the
Cirrus or Maestro system. If the back of your card has one of these
symbols you will be fine. Make sure to check with your bank how much
they charge for international transactions. You will pay too much
commission to cash traveler’s checks. |

Travel Documents

photocopies of your passport, visa, medical insurance, plane tickets
and any other important documents before you leave |

Drinking Water
Drink bottled water. It is cheap and can be found everywhere. Just
make sure if you buy from the street, the seal on the cap isn’t
already broken, as some people will refill bottles with tap water. Tap
water is fine for brushing teeth and many people drink it despite the
bad odor. |
