If you want a deeper
understanding of Brazilian society, then the favela tour is a must.
Rocinha, the largest favela in Rio, can be considered a small city,
equipped with its own governing system. There are over 150,000 people
living in very poor conditions.
Favela tours are very safe with a
registered guide and they help contribute to the favela society. The
highly acclaimed Brasilian film Cidade de Deus (City of God) is a
must-see and gives an excellent account of favela life.
Warning, do
NOT enter into a favela on your own! |
