You don’t need to be a soccer/football
fanatic to enjoy a game at Maracana. This is the largest soccer
stadium in the world that was built for the 1950 World Cup. Upon its
completion it held over 200,000 cheering, dancing, and singing fans.
It has since been modified for safety reasons and can hold 120,000.
The biggest rivalry in all of Brazil, where the stadium is sure to be
packed, is between Flamengo and Fluminense (Fla-Flu). Matches are
usually played on the weekend where the atmosphere outside and inside
the stadium is unbelievable. On the street people are preparing for
the game by endorsing the vendors who are selling cold beers, “street
meat” and all sorts of soccer jerseys. Inside the rival fans are
chanting and preparing to erupt as their team takes the field and
hopefully scores the first goal. Once inside the stadium, you will
quickly realize why Brazil is the best soccer country in the world and
the proud owners of five World Cups!
From excellent seats you will feel like chanting along and cheering
with the locals! Depending on group size, this tour may also be done with
other tourists. |
