The tour starts with a
pick up at the hotel and a pleasant drive to Tijuca Forest. The
forest lies in Tijuca National Park - the world’s largest urban
forest. Tijuca Forest is a mix of beauty and history with its paths,
waterfalls, and greenery.
Next we will drive to an area in the mountains known as Paineiras.
From there you can walk or drive to amazing spots with
beautiful views overlooking the Lagoa (Lagoon), Ipanema and the Jardim
Botanical (Botanical Gardens), which is home to over 8,000 species of
plants. If it is getting too hot, take a refreshing shower in the
fresh water that is being piped out of the mountain side.
Next, it is on to one of Brazil’s most famous tourist attractions,
Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), which stands 38 metres
high on the peak of Corcovado (710 m). From here, you get a great view
of Maracana Stadium, Lagoa and the famous beaches of Copacabana and
Ipanema.
Leaving the National Park, we now head towards the entrance of
Guanabara Bay and begin our journey up Pao de Acucar (Sugar Loaf).
Using a cable car, the first leg will climb 220 metres where there is
a panoramic restaurant, amphitheatre, and a heliport. The next cable
car takes you to the top, 396 metres above the “cidade maravilhosa”.
From here you will have a dazzling view of Rio, Guanabara Bay, the
beaches, and Niteroi (including the bridge).
